Still in Savannah
but this time we decided to take the car for a run. Our first stop was the Old Fort Jackson which in times of old saw plenty of action
defending the town of Savannah
before and during the American Civil War.
We were privileged to watch an experienced actor show us how to load a
rifle and shot a canon. It was very entertaining.
We then travelled to Tybee Island
which is one of the many islands that dot this coast line. However, this island happens to be at the
mouth of the Savannah River and has been a
popular spot for Georgians through the decades.
Here we climbed the 178 steps to the top of its lighthouse and enjoyed
more delicious southern style food. I
ordered sweet potato fries and this time they came covered in cinnamon and
balsamic vinegar.
The weather has warmed and the sky is clear. The north is experiencing ice and snow as it
experiences winter storm after winter storm.
It is possible that we will avoid the worst of it when we eventually
head to NY as there seems to be a break on the way.
Tonight is our last night in Savannah
and we will travel the 1.5 hours to Charleston
tomorrow. The school holidays have
started here in the US
and this weekend is always the busiest on the road. With luck we will not experience that
tomorrow as we travel in the opposite direction to the warmth in the south.
