Hanging Washing the Italian Way
This is an extract from an early email that we sent to New Zealand and I thought it worthy of sharing on the blog.
"We have managed to wash our first set of clothes and hung
them like the Italians. The Juliet balcony on which the washing machine
sits is only four tiles wide and you have to hang precariously over its edge,
holding on to the inside wall while using your only spare hand to manoeuvre
your wet clothing onto the line that hangs four floors above the ground. I had
images of asking the neighbour on the ground floor if I could collect my fallen
unmentionables using hand gestures and poor Italian. With great relief said
unmentionables were still hanging from the line when we got home yesterday".
