Now in Florence, Mum and I woke to the bells of the Duomo which is just around the corner. It was OK the first time but then they continued at intervals of approx. 20 minutes. I guess we will get used to them.
Out and about to locate the food market, Mum first enjoys a little retail therapy at the street stalls before we discover one of the stalls at the food market is selling roast meat rolls, Florence style. Unlike many of those around us we did not take part in drinking the wine but we did enjoy the taste of the rolls. Pesto was put on the meat and they were delicious.
Cruising the markets we filled our bags with cheese, vegies and pasta for our evening meals. There are some pretty amazing food sights.
After we dropped our groceries at the apartment, I took Mum to some of the main sights in old Florence including the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria and Ponte Vecchio.
Florence is shopping heaven and as we wondered the streets, there were many stops at shop windows. We ended our day sitting in Piazza Santa Croce watching a couple passionately kissing and thinking about how romantic it would be to have our respective husbands with us. Then Mum as she got up from the cafe seat, nearly took the waiters 'italian sausage' out with her walking stick. The dreaming was over.
