Our flight to Barcelona with Turkish Air was already 30 minutes late when the plane made its way to the runway. Waiting in the queue for take off we enjoyed "NOT" the antics of 3 young men seated in front of us who persistently fidgeted with everything on their seats. The gentleman seated next to Ron, was rudely woken when the young man sitting in front of him jammed his seat back into the rest position pinning his legs (and we still haven't taken off). The staff did not show any concern that passengers seats were ready for take off.
At last we take off and with the plane still climbing to cruising level, a flight attendant rushes down the aisle and hastily instructs passengers in one of the exit rows over the wing to exit their seats. He then proceeds to pull a panel off the emergency exit door and fiddle with the mechanics of the door. Next thing we knew we were flying back to Istanbul as the emergency door in that row was showing that it was open on the cockpit controls. We landed safely and were taxied to a spot next to the runway where a team of technicians were ready to board the plane. Buses were also waiting to take the passengers off the plane but in the end they asked us to stay on board. A good unconfortable 20 minutes or so later we were told that the problem had been resolved and that we could continue with our flight. Once in the air again, the staff eventually started to deliver a meal to the passengers. As we were in row 16 we were served last and by that time they had run out of some of the dishes on offer. You can only imagine by this stage we are not happy but hungry enough to except what was left. We arrived in Barcelona 3 hours after our original scheduled arrival and it took another 2 hours before we arrived at our hotel. Urrr.....
A further point of interest was that each Spanish person that we spoke to warned us about pickpocketers in Barcelona. This only managed to add to our heightened level of exhaustion after a day of unnecessary extended travel.
