Today we decided to drive the 18 miles along the shore of Loch Ness to Urquart Castle. No bagpipes or brides dressed in medieval clothes today. However we were not disappointed by the land view of the Loch with the castle in the foreground and its surrounds which were stunning. The visitor’s centre and delicious morning tea topped off our visit.
Leaving Nessy we travelled to Blair Atthol where we pulled in to look through Blair Castle with its fairytale exterior and tartan and hunting theme interior. We entered the castle to the sounds of yet another piper playing his bagpipes and true to form, we were not able to see the ball room as they were preparing for a wedding. The castle gave us insight into an age where hunting stag and fishing were an important social activity. Anyone into swords would have been well pleased with the display of weaponry. A very pretty castle.
The end of the day found us having done full circle as we settled in for a night near Stirling.
