Still on a mission to see as much of Great Britain as we could before Owen went home, we now headed to the Lake District, however we cheated a little and skirted around it to Muncaster Castle. This family home which really is a castle was situated on the west coast overlooking a gorgeous estuary and within reach of Ireland. The attraction here was an Owl Sanctuary. Visitors were treated to a close up encounter with three owls and their keepers. Well…initially it was a treat until a very passionate owl keeper started lecturing us on Owl conservation and quoting Ron’s words, “didn’t draw breath for an hour or more”. After the owls we visited the castle itself. There we met an eccentric historian who also forgot to ‘draw breath’. The room in which we met her had a laptop under a glass dome. She told us that it had been set up after a weekend convention of Ghost enthusiasts and was to record any magnetic fluctuations of the ghostly type. With great amusement she told us how to get a reading by swiping our audio players under the table. Of course we obliged and left our ghostly presence recorded for the ghost geeks. Muncaster Castle claims to be the place where ‘Tom Fool’ lived and played. Initially we were quite confused when the eccentric historian kept referring to Tom and his antics. Eventually it all made sense when we continued to listened to our audio players. The Castle also had a room with its walls covered in 24 carat gold embossed leather wallpaper. I began to ponder if the castle was full of the ghosts of cows, eccentrics and fools! 
The day was topped off with the most expensive fees for a caravan park that we had the misfortune to be asked to pay.
