Hadrian’s Wall 16 Sept

By this stage we are running a day late according to my itinerary and we make the decision to catch up on some time by missing Beamish and travelling on to Hadrian’s Wall where we visit the remains of Chester’s Roman Fort. A section of Hadrian’s Wall could still be seen across the river from the Roman bathhouse. When they excavated the bathhouse they found at least 33 peoples skeletal remains. A considerable amount of the fort had been excavated and extended over a wide area. The museum attached to the fort holds a considerable collection of altar stones and artifacts of every day Roman Fort life.
After Chester’s we make our way across the Northumberland National Park to Otterburn and then on to find our Caravan Park for the night. Here we are presented with our first taste of very cold weather. However, the weather remains dry.
